Mr Van den Bossche completed his undergraduate medical training at the Catholic University Leuven in Belgium and trained as a General Surgeon at the same University, completed his specialist surgical training in 1995. From 1995 to 1997 Mr Van den Bossche undertook a period of additional surgical training in Advanced Laparoscopic Surgery, before being appointed as a Consultant General Surgeon in the Department of Digestive and Laparoscopic Surgery at Saint Elisabeth Hospital in Brussels.Mr Van den Bossche is a Fellow of the International College of Surgeons and Royal College of Surgeons; he is also a member of the Association of Laparoscopic Surgeons, British Obesity and Metabolic Surgery Society, European Association of Endoscopic Surgery, American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgeons, Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons and the International Federation of Surgery for Obesity.
Mr Kelly qualified in 1995. After completing his surgical training locally in the Wessex area he spent two years on an Australian surgical fellowship returning to the UK in 2007. In 2008, he was appointed at the Southampton University Hospital NHS as a Consultant General Surgeon and has become a highly respected bariatric surgeon. Mr Kelly has a specialist interest in laparoscopic and minimal access surgery. This is demonstrated in his approach and personal development of weight loss surgery.
Mr Kelly has advanced interventional endoscopic skills and has pioneered endoscopic surgical technique. He has spent time in America learning the Endobarrier and POSE procedures. He continues to develop these procedures within the UK and is involved in national and international research trials to optimise patient treatment and care.
